"NO ROOM at the inn" is a central tenet of the Christmas story. And this Christmas, seven young comedians are being welcomed into one very funny new stable. These previously independent comedy orphans: Sammy J, Heath McIvor, Felicity Ward, Heath Franklin, Smart Casual and David Quirk, are now united under the guiding light of a management team combining Buxton Walker publicity and production house Laughing Stock. The group will show off their 2010 shows at a one-off Christmas special this Thursday, hosted by The Chaser's Chas Licciardello and Craig Reucassel. And while the acts are young and the management team new, it's a safe bet that their stars will continue to rise. Sammy J and Heath McIvor received The Age critics' choice award for their 2008 show, the Barry award-nominated Sammy J in the Forest of Dreams. They have toured Australia and the UK and had sell-out performances in London's West End.In 2010, they will launch Ricketts Lane, a live sitcom, starring a skinny man (Sammy J) and a purple puppet (Randy). The show will tour Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and the UK."I can't predict with certainty, but I imagine I'll be telling a number of jokes about Richard Dawkins, Tony Abbott and Australia's World Cup hopes," Sammy J says.Felicity Ward was a best newcomer nominee for her solo show in the 2009 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. She is taking her storytelling show on the road in 2010.Along with Raw Comedy 2009 runners-up Smart Casual, Heath Franklin and cult sensation Dave Quirk, it's a star-studded stable. The Comedy Orphans' Christmas Spectacular, The Comedy Theatre, 240 Exhibition Street, December 10, $35.90/$32.90
